Our Favourite Munch - Part 1

We're pretty good at munchin'

Over our many years of traversing different areas of globe, we've munched at some pretty cool places (check out Simple as Owt for some examples). We've had a pretty good crack at trying the local munch, and we'll just throw some of our current favourites below.

There's too much to just throw onto one post, so this is part of a series, keep an eye out for others.

Wildhive - Visit Website

I bloody love Wildhive, if you want to impress someone, bring them here. The food is amazing, the scenery is brill, and Callow Hall itself is like walking through a National Trust property and going for a drink.

Speaking of, the Old Fashioned here is unreal, I've not been able to have another one since without comparing it to the one I had at Wildhive. I brought my mum here for mothers day/her birthday and we had the full 3 courses and drinks, everything was ridiculously good - but, it does come with a hefty price tag.

We had the 3 courses, and 2 drinks, and it came to (after the service charge) around £200. Which I get is expensive, but if it's a one-off occasion, or if you're just fucking minted, it's something that you won't forget.

They do grill nights as well, which are well worth going to where there's a slightly different menu, the menu also rotates with the season and loads of the ingredients are grown fairly locally too (I had some Kale from Eyam when I last went).

Overall, a really really special place, you can stay here too in treehouses and there are rooms in the hall itself, well worth going if you can.

Cornerstone - Visit Website

Whenever we bring anyone to Ashbourne for the first time for breakfast, we try and bring them to Cornerstone for brekkie. Partially because the food there is really nice, but it's also a lil' bit posh, without being overbearing. The vibe is, as the kids say, checked.

We generally only go for breakfast, but have seen that they do themed tasting menu nights, which our neighbour has recommended having been quite a few times. We keep meaning to do one, but keep missing it, but it's worth a go if you're in the area!

The portions are smaller than other cafes in town, but you get much fancier munch for it, pricing is pretty good too, off the top of my head the breakfast is around £10, would recommend the coffee too, which is also quite nice and (I believe) roasted in house.

Everyone we've brought here has loved it, we even brought the Alt team here before a walk to Thorpe, and they did a great job in dealing with 10 rowdy hooligans.

For a small independent business, they're doing a great job - and they're always our first choice recommendation - get yourself there!

The Horns - Visit Website

We recently went to The Horns during the latest Streetfest with our friend Mitchell (pictured below) and had yet another fish finger sandwich (we seem to be going through a bit of a phase of fish finger sandwiches at the minute).

The Horns has only been open a few weeks but the feedback, both from us and others in the local area have been really good, they've obviously put some effort into making the inside nice and the food is really bloody good.

We both had the sandwiches which came with chips and tiny pickles (cornichons if we're getting technical up in the joint), and they were £10 each, Mitchell had a steak burger, which came with chips & salad, and that was around £15. Also the onion rings are bloody stunning for £4 - highly recommend.

Altogether it came to around £50, which for 3 meals, 3 drinks of the alcoholic variety I wouldn't say is bad at all. The one thing I would mention is that the tables at the front are quite sloped (especially the one we sat at), but it's worth it to be sat outside and have a prime position to people watch. Unless it's lashing it down, then probably stay inside unless you like that kind of thing.

End of part 1

That's it for now! As of writing this, the site isn't even close to finished, so got other bits to put together yet. But if you've made it this far, I hope there's something of use in there and that you actually get to go try some of the places we suggest.

Peace out homies ✌️
